A story of Local Response by Jessica Buisan Rey
The first time that we met in the plenary, I realised how many different people came from a lot of countries around the world.
Since we arrived at the hotel and we started to meet people joining the festival, I felt a welcoming atmosphere. And from this day, I haven't stopped learning from others, but also about myself.
A few months ago, my mother asked me if I wish to come with her to India. I agreed immediately. Then she explained to me the purpose of this travel. She said that there will take place the festival, an opportunity where I could learn from people working in NGOs.
So finally came that day, the day of departure to Chennai.
Since the first day that started the global learning Festival, I observed love, sharing and respect between each participant. No matter your nationality, religion or skin colour. There was a wellness, sincere and honest atmosphere. I realised that we could all live together. When we went to the community, the people welcomed us with happiness, and we respected each other. It didn't matter where we came from, there was a shared and loving feeling between the team and the community. We are all human beings. The main lesson that I learned is that we can all live in harmony.
We can work together to build a strong aim. I feel that we construct our own community, sharing our experience, sharing a common dream and try to achieve it.
I've also learned how powerful the community can be when there is a team spirit.
After this great experience of knowing people that I will never forget, there are some things that I can apply in my community so I can be useful. I think that to listen to others and to help people to find their own dream is the main step if you want to make a change. As I said the first day, what makes us human beings is that we have memories and that we learn from them to build a life.
From this experience, I'll always remember to get in touch with people, to share my feelings and always to look how you can help others.
