A story of Local Response by Sakina Syed
Sita (name changed) is a sex worker in Bangalore. She lives with a permanent partner and has a daughter aged 8 years. One day when she returned home, she was astonished to see that her daughter was missing.
She sought the help of the CBO Mahila Kranthii desperate to locate her daughter. Mahila Kranthi lodged a complaint and started an enquiry. When the enquiry started, her permanent partner ran away from home. Later the police failed to identify the permanent partner, the suspect behind the missing child.
Sita, after noticing the police stopped their efforts, sought the help of one of the members of Mahila Kranthi. They did a social networking mapping of her permanent partner. She met the key associates of the permanent partner and located the probable suspect.
She finally discovered that her daughter was with an affluent family in Bangalore. She was overwhelmed with joy. But the man refused to give the child back. She took up a complaint and continued to persevere with the police in Bangalore.
Finally her perseverance paid off and she got the child back in the family.
The lesson from the story is that when things do not work out, do not get disappointed. If you make efforts consistently, you will get the results one day.
