A story of Local Response by Consolée Kamaro
Then my husband replied immediately, "Where did you get your small mouth and you big ears?" That was a very difficult question to answer. I thought that he was trying to avoid my question. So I asked why he was asking me that question and he answered, “In the past, you used to talk a lot. But now, you don't speak so often and I realise now that you are listening more."
It was last year on Sunday, 25 May. I can't forget the day and the year. I was in our sitting room with my husband at the end of the week. We had reviewed the activities of last week and then we planned the activities for the coming week.
After that, we discussed each other. I started, "Oh my husband, nowadays, you are not kind. You are always in a bad mood. If someone is talking to you, you don't listen to them. So would you like to change that bad habit?"
And so I understood his question that is the title of my story. Then I told him that this was the positive impact of CLCP. During the SALT visit, a facilitator must develop a sense of listening (big ears) and must talk only when it's necessary (small lmouth). Now my husband has changed. Today, he has a small mouth and big ears like me and the whole family.
Here is my lesson. The more that you practice CLCP, the more that you realise that listening is an indispensable element in the approach. It is certainly indispensable for the individual and perhaps it is also indispensable for the entire community.

Je n'ai pas compris pourquoi cette question et il m'a dit: "Aujourd'hui, actuellement, tu parles moins mais. Tu as développé un sens d'écoute". Et c'était par après que j'ai réalisé qu'il a vu lui même que j'ai changé, que j'ai développé un sens d'écoute et je parle moins, Je parle quand c'est nécessaire.
C'était alors, grâce à l'approche SALT que j'ai pu développer un sensé d'écouter, un sens de qu'il faut parler moins, parler quand c'est nécessaire.
Donc pour une leçon que je peux donner c'est que dans le processus de l'approche SALT, l'écoute est un élément indispensable, incontournable pour le changement dans l'individu et, pourquoi pas, un changement d'une communauté toute entière."
Et c'était le tour de lui. Il a dit: "Mais, où est-ce que tu as acheté la petite bouche et les grandes oreilles?"
"Bonsoir, je m'appelle Kamaro Consolée. Je suis burundaise et je représente Burundi Compétence.
Je veux partager avec vous une petite histoire. Un jour, c'était l'année passée, en 2011, et je ne peux pas oublier la date, c'était le 25 mai, à Burundi. On était au salon à la famille avec mon mari. On était tenté de clôturer la fin de la semaine. On discutait les activités qu'on avait réalisées au cours de la semaine et pour préparer la semaine suivante. Et à la fin on a dit pourquoi il y a des choses qui n'ont pas marché. Et on a (...) ces choses là et j'ai commencé à dire, “Maintenant mon mari, tu deviens de plus en plus sévère envers moi et envers les enfants. Alors, il faut que tu changes".
