A story of Local Response by Phoeon
They created a name for the group. They are discussing the activities and the outings that they would like to do. The activities and outings help them to have more time to build rapport with each other and with their family as well. They appreciate each other’s strengths and are willing to learn from each other as well.
One of the examples that I saw was when one of the mothers was suffering with cancer and was in hospital. This group of mothers started to discuss and to think about how to help his mother when she is in hospital. They decided to fetch the kids from school and to cook for them. Because of their motivation and encouragement, this mother has more confidence to fight for her life no matter how poor her health was.
When we believe in the inner strengths and power of human beings, we can transfer that belief to other people who are in need.
I am working with a group of single mothers: for some of them their husband has dies, for others their husband is in in jail and for other they have been abandoned by boyfriends. These mothers are breadwinners and they have to take care of the kids. This is the challenge that they are facing now.
Initially, they were reluctant to face this challenge and that is why our organisation stepped in to help them. They don't like to share this story with other people. They have their own living skills. They don't step outside of their house to make friends with their neighbours. We encourage them to speak out and try to build their confidence. We try to form a group with the single mothers because they have the same background and issues. So they are able to have common topics to share during the group meeting. Some of the mothers are shy to share their story, but we can see that when the session starts, some of the mothers are willing to share their life stories and this will stimulate the other mothers.
