A story of Local Response by Bobby Zachariah
Because under-nutrition among children under five years old was a concern, the communities met to analyse the root causes of the issue. Among several factors that were analysed, the prominent ones included unhappy family relationships, domestic violence and poor parenting skills and interest.
Communities decided to keep track of the family happiness using a happiness calendar and to address the challenge. The daily tracking of emotions helped families to recognise the unhappy situations and to address them by bringing in the necessary changes.
Families consistently made progress and became happy places. Children got the necessary attention.
Visitors to these families noticed the happiness calendars and the changes that were happening. We were curious and started to apply the process. Change is now spreading among families in the region is positively impacting child nutrition.
