Cast Iron Chef

This shift is done weekly for 1 hour of workshift credit.

    • Collect all the cast iron pan from the kitchen stove.

    • If possible try using as little water as possible.

    • For lightly soiled pans, begin by pouring a bit of oil into your skillet. Take a paper towel and wipe off any food pieces.

    • For pans that have food slightly stuck on them, you can pour a little sea salt or regular salt on the skillet. Scrub the skillet with a paper towel, throwing away any scrubbed on food. After cleaning off all excess salt add a little oil to a paper towel to oil the pan down.

    • For really stuck on food use the steel wool and pour some hot water scrubbing off all the stuck on food.

    • When using water with the cast iron it is important that you dry it as a soon as possible or it will rust.

    • You can dry the cast iron with a paper towel or set it over a flame for a few minutes to dry.
