The Sensory Room

Welcome to the Sensory Room! We have explored the Lobby, Hallway, Preschool Room and Lifeskills room and have learned about how important it is to involve families, intervene early, and to provide appropriate structures to help individuals be successful even after high school.

This week we are going to focus on a neurodivergent category that is rapidly growing: Autism Spectrum Disorders. This corresponds with Chapter 5 in your guidebook (Textbook). Now we are going to spend a full week just investigating this sector of the school due to the fact that Autism Spectrum Disorder is not a one-size fits all disability. It is a spectrum meaning there is significant variability between each Autistic individual. Some students will have mild forms of Autism, where as others have more severe forms of Autism.

Your goal for this week is to dive in deep and investigate Autism Spectrum Disorders, how it is identified, what needs an Autistic individual may need to succeed in school, and instructional resources to help Autistic individuals overcome their areas of need.

Directions: Explore the Sensory Room to locate the quests. Look for things that appear out of place. Hint: They are hyperlinks on the slides.
