Directions:

Directions: Young children are creatures of habit. Consistency is key for maintaining routine. Well we are going turn our typical daily routine upside down. For this quest, your mission is to understand why maintaining a consistent routine is developmentally meaningful for so many young children with exceptionalities. To do this, you will do the following:

  1. List out your typical daily summer schedule.

  2. Write a silly challenge schedule (out of the ordinary, big changes to the routine, etc.)

  3. Have a dice at the ready. Each morning you will role the dice to determine what type of day you are going to have: Normal or Out of Whack. Roll 1, 2, 4, 5, 6...it will be a normal day. Roll at 3, it will be an Out of Whack Schedule day.

  4. Do this for a total of 5 days. Try to have at least 1 out of whack day.

  5. Reflect on what it was like rolling the dice and determining what type of day you would have. How did it make you feel to have an abnormal routine? What changes did you note in your own mood, behavior, attitude on those silly days?

  6. Reflect on how abnormal schedule impact young children with exceptionalities? Talk about if your routine changed the environmental setting, how did that impact your comfort and how it may impact a students.

  7. Post your discussion in the Schedule Roulette Discussion Board Post.
