NSC/College Going Data Released

For the past five years, the Mitchell Institute sends DISHS our data from the National Student Clearinghouse. According to the Mitchell Institute, “The National Student Clearinghouse is a college enrollment and degree verification service that maintains records for nearly 3,000 institutions of higher education. More than 90% of college students in the U.S. attend colleges and universities that participate in the service, which makes the Clearinghouse a great resource for high schools looking to track their graduates’ post-secondary enrollment and retention... as part of its Barriers to College study, the Mitchell Institute is providing the StudentTracker service to all of Maine’s public high schools at no charge (the fee is normally $425 per school).” NSC data is the only data DISHS receives that helps track how many of our students actually go on to post-secondary education.
I would point your attention to pages 28-42, which show the college history of the classes of 2003-2010. Also, on pg. 2 you can see that a higher than average percentage of the Class of 2010 enrolled in college the semester immediately following graduation and on pg. 7 that a higher than average percentage of the same class enrolled in college at any time in the year after graduation.
Unfortunately, the five year grant that allowed the Mitchell Institute to provide this data free to all Maine high schools has ended and we may not be getting this data in the future.
