Island Education Revitalization Committee Releases Interim Report

Post date: Feb 29, 2016 3:13:26 PM

The Island Education Revitalization Committee was created in September by the select boards of Deer Isle and Stonington. Its purpose was to identify current or potential problems with the DIS school system and make recommendations to help restore community confidence in our schools.  The IERC focused on creating an interim report to be released in February, along with the results of an Island-wide survey distributed online, through the Island Ad-Vantages, and via the two Town Offices.  Additional surveys were given to students and staff at the middle and high schools in order to gather student, staff, and public opinion about the state of the school system.  The IERC hopes that this interim report will be useful in helping the school board and community build and adopt a responsible budget for the 2016-17 school year and to initiate a constructive process for setting a positive direction for the Island’s schools over the long term.
