BREAKING NEWS: DISHS Posts 93.75% Graduation Rate for Class of 2012!

DISHS recently received its verified graduation and dropout rates for the past school year from the Maine Department of Education. The school is very pleased to report that the graduation rate for the class of 2012 was 93.75% and the annual dropout rate for the 2011-12 school year was 2.88%!

The graduation rate for the class of 2012 actually exceeded the school's target of 90%. Using 2010-11 data, the latest available for the entire state, a 93.75% graduation rate would have ranked 16th of all high schools in the state and would have been the highest in Hancock County. For the class of 2013, DISHS has set a target goal of a 95% graduation rate.  As of 7/1/12, the school was on track to achieve that goal.

The dropout rate was higher than the school's 1% target but was the second year in a row that the dropout rate was under 3%.  While just four students counted as dropouts each of the last two years, the school pledges to continue working towards its goal of having no students drop out during a school year.

DISHS's commitment to preparing all students to pursue any post-scondary option they choose- college or career- is reflected in these results.  The school regularly checks the progress of all students as they progress towards graduation and provides personalized support to struggling students via the Student Assistance Team and Learning Center.  The hard work of the students, parents, and the dedicated high school staff is helping to "launch life-long learners and responsible citizens able to keep our coastal communities vital."
