Agenda & Superintendent's Note for 7/2 School Committee Meeting

Post date: Jun 29, 2012 11:58:28 AM

Good Morning,

Attached is the agenda for the July 2 Deer Isle-Stonington School Committee meeting.

The school committee decided at one of its June meetings that all school committee meetings will be held at the high school until further notice.

On Wednesday of this week high school principal Todd West and a team from DISHS including Marion Austin, Seth Laplante, Amy Vaughn and Craig Kesselheim did several great presentations at the annual Department of Education Commissioner's Conference in Augusta. They outlined for superintendents and other educators from across Maine the school improvement work and results that have been underway at our high school for the past five years. I wish everyone on the island could have seen one of these presentations. You would be proud of their work.

The School Union 76 board met last Thursday for a unanimous vote to employ Mark Jenkins as the next superintendent of schools. He is coming to DI-S from Fort Fairfield where he has been the grade 6-12 school principal for the past twelve years. Mark and I have already met to begin the process of transition, which will continue in July until he takes the helm on August 1.

This is my last Deer Isle-Stonington meeting. Thank you to all who have pitched in over the years to help make

DI-S schools better for our children. Keep on launching those life long learners!
