Notification of Lockdown Drill

Post date: Dec 20, 2016 4:57:17 PM

To the Parents and Guardians of Deer Isle-Stonington High School Students:

Ensuring the safety of all of our students has always been the top priority of Deer Isle-Stonington High School. We regularly evaluate and update our school safety policies and procedures.  As part of this process, we held an announced lockdown drill today at 9:00am.  Please note that this was not a mock event- we simply practiced our lockdown procedure with students in the building. The lock down drill will be debriefed with school staff following the drill in preparation for an unannounced drill later this school year.

We understand that each family may want to discuss the topic of school violence with their children in a different way.  We encourage you to talk about school safety with your children in a way that makes sense for your family.  If you would like some tips or resources, please visit the “Parent Tab” on the school website (www.dishs.org) or call Kristina Minott in the Guidance Office (348-2288).

Deer Isle-Stonington High School will continue to make every effort to ensure the safety of our students while trying to maintain an inviting and welcoming school atmosphere. If you have any questions about the lockdown drill, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Todd West, Principal
