DISHS Seeks Community Support to Bring "Every 15 Minutes" Program to Our School

Post date: Sep 25, 2016 6:24:35 PM

Earlier this year, several parents suggested that we should bring the “Every 15 Minutes” program to DISHS.  Since that time, we have been working with the Hancock County Sheriffs Department to do exactly that!

In order to make this a reality, we need the assistance and support of our community.  We will be forming a community-based Steering Committee for this event.  The first meeting will be Wednesday, October 5 at 3 PM in the high school cafeteria.  We welcome your thoughts and suggestions and look forward to having you join us in this effort.

If you are not familiar with the program, “Every 15 Minutes” is a realistic and emotional exercise in which there is a simulated alcohol related car accident.  The goal is to educate teens about the very real consequences of drinking and driving.  The two day program includes the accident and resulting fatalities amongst the student body and concludes with their funeral.  For more information, go to http://www.everyfifteenminutes.org/aboutus/.
