"Celebrating", coloured pencils and coloured markers, 11" x 14", February 8th, 2021

My artwork looks like a scene from a dream. There are vivid colors and a variety of creatures not found on this earth, created by my own imagination. The title of my work is “Assorted Jelly Salad”. I chose this title because I felt that it was somewhat humorous. My piece is very much assorted, however, it is definitely not a salad. I used several different paintbrushes and various shades of acrylic paint in this piece. With different sizes of paintbrushes, I was able to show different textures and depth in my piece. With the different shades of paint, I was able to bring my dreamscape to life. My art is inspired by one of my favorite movies, “Ponyo”. It is also inspired by scenes from storybooks that I had as a child and dreams that I have had while I sleep. In this piece, I wanted to convey a feeling of serenity and calm. My goals for this artwork were to “go with the flow”, if I made a mistake I would use it to my advantage and use it to transform my piece. I added things as I went and took some things away as well. While creating this piece I learned that it is okay to make mistakes and that I have to be patient with myself. This final piece is everything that I want it to be. I am very happy with the outcome.
