The Night Sky

Acrylic paint canvas, 16 x 20, April 6, 2021

My artwork looks like a beautiful night sky in a forest. This painting represents a night at a lake or a forest watching the sky darken at night. The title of this artwork is The Night Sky. Some of the elements of art shown on this painting are value and space. I used different sized paint brushes, technique sponges, acrylic paint, and a canvas to create this artwork. I used the technique sponges to blend the sky and to make it look more realistic. I was looking on Pinterest to find some ideas of what I could create for this assignment and came across this work. When I saw the art I immediately thought of a summer by the lake watching the sun set. That inspired me to create this painting, and add some personal touches that made it feel more personal and make it to match the meaning behind it. Some of my goals as an artist are for people to look at my paintings and understand what it is about. I think that this painting helped to achieve my goals, because when we did the peer feedback, many people guessed what the painting was about before I had even told them. When creating this artwork, I faced some challenges, such as the colours in the sky not blending as well as I wanted it to. I learned that it is okay to make mistakes while painting and that it can be fixed. The final piece is what I imagined it to be. I wanted it to represent watching the sunset as the sky goes dark.
