Down By the Beach

acrylic paint on canvas, 16 x 20, April 5th, 2021

I had a lot of fun creating my piece of art, and I tried to convey the true meaning behind it. My piece is titled "Down by the Beach" because the individual (me) is walking along the beach. Of course, the viewers have no idea that it is a beach in Albania, but it is fair to say that it definitely looks like a beach. I enjoy travelling, particularly to Albania because I have extended family there, but with the current situation(Covid), my parents haven’t decided whether or not we are going this year. I chose to paint a beach in Albania because I love the country, particularly its clear waters, food, and people. Some elements of art in my piece that stand out are most definitely texture, value, colour, and space. Colour is used everywhere to show a decorative beauty, a joyful mood and helped create individuality and flare to the piece. Value is used to show shadow under the 3 rocks and space is shown between the 3 rocks, person and mountain. As for principles rhythm/movement, and variety. Rhythm/movement is shown with the footsteps leading towards the person as they get small and smaller. Variety is shown because there are many different shapes used to generate the piece. My main goals for this process were mostly to have fun with it, be as creative as possible and to not stress out even if I do make a mistake. I tried to use bright colours in my piece to bring out a joyful feel to it so that it would be able to attract more viewers if it actually to go on display. If I were to tell you to imagine a beach, I assume that you would think about a fun, warm and relaxing place to go to, to let out any stress you may have. I attempted to resemble that same feeling in my artwork. I also set a goal towards putting hard work and effort into my piece and if I make a mistake just go along with it. I somewhat had this final piece in my mind. I feel like the mountain and texture I tried going for where the water hits the sand isn’t just right. Overall, in my opinion, it turned out to look really good and I am proud of what I have created.
