I chose to recreate this image because of the color scheme and the unrealistic beauty of something real. The way the colors worked with each other and all the different shapes that make up the image just drew me in from the first sight. My favorite part is the over-exaggeration and childlike essence that come together to create a beautifully unrealistic escape. While creating this image I had a bit of ups and downs. There were some parts of the image that were amazing and fun to do. But then there were some parts that I was just dying to get finished. I do have to say that the overall experience was fantastic and so calming. The simple nature of brushstrokes and mixing paint is something so mundane that the task of doing it is just so joyous and relaxing. I found the experience so beautiful and soothing. Most days I sat by a window with 27 demos by Margo Guryan playing in the background. I do think that I'm going to keep up with painting and continue to practice it. When choosing the colors for the painting I wanted to try and color match as best as I could. There are a few differences with the colors in my art compared to Lawren Harris’s but for what I had, I think I did well. One of the first reasons I chose this painting was because of the colors that are displayed. They all work so cohesively with each other, all the colors come together to create a marvelous portrait that conveys so many emotions. So of course when it comes to the element of color this painting does a wonderful job of displaying it. The way that the colors compliment each other is truly stunning. But some other elements of design we see in the art are, shape, value, form, and space. A lot of this painting is made up of many different shapes. There are sharp defined shapes like the light beans and softer more rounded shapes like the clouds in the sky. When it comes to the element of shape I often find space goes hand in hand with it. We have some objects close to the canvas and then some far away, like out of reach from all of life. But there also is a strong essence of value in this art. The jumps between dark and light show a realistic example of value but in an unrealistic and crazy depiction of a place in real life. There is a really good depiction of form in the rocks near the front of the canvas and the middle. The way the light hits the rocks gives a three-dimensional look to them and in turn, creates a really nice example of form
