Grade 3 

Description

Students will design patterns and use visual storytelling to make their own vessels inspired by Greek art history. They will use pencil and black marker to render their stories, emphasizing the positive and negative spaces in their artwork. 

Lesson Objectives

• Students will create a narrative or pattern to depict in their artwork.

•  Students will utilize Greek patterns to create a sgraffito design.

•  Students will learn about ancient Greek pottery.

•  Students will gain a more comprehensive awareness of positive and negative space.

Materials

• Pencil

• Paper 

• Markers

• Scissors

Steps

• Watch the video and examine the examples

• Fold paper in half

• Create half of a vase shape and cut out

• Use a pencil to create  greek designs

• Outline and color with a black marker
