Ashanti Mask

Introduction

The Ashanti masks are believed to bridge the gap between the spiritual realm and the physical realm, bringing the spirits of the ancestors and other entities to life through their usage. They are used in events such as initiation ceremonies and masquerade performances.

Procedure

Watch the videos and study the examples.

Create an Ashanti Mask drum.

Spend time looking at the examples. Use a round paper cardboard as the base. Remote students you can trace a plate to create a nice large circle on a piece of paper.
Using the examples, design traditional Ashanti patterns and a mixture of your your style to create a symmetrical face.
Outline in black sharpie and color with markers.
