Extracting the Survivor Files

To make modding of survivors quicker, extract all of the survivor-related files from L4D2 into a created set of folders.

Step 1 - Setup Folders and Open GCFScape

1. Download the L4D2 extracted files template.
2. Open GCFScape.

Step 2 - Extract from left4dead2 Pack

1. Click on File > Open menu item.
2. Select the "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2" folder.
3. Open the "pak01_dir.vpk" file within the selected folder.
4. Go to "models\survivors" (in the left panel).
5. Select all files except those listed below:

- - - - anim_biker.*
        anim_teenangst.*

1. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of template set of folders.
2. Go to "materials\models\survivors" (in the left panel).
3. Select all the files listed (in the right panel).
4. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of your created set of folders.
5. Go to "materials\vgui" (in the left panel).
6. Select only the files listed below:
  - s_panel_coach*.*
  - s_panel_gambler*.*
  - s_panel_lobby*.*
  - s_panel_mechanic*.*
  - s_panel_producer*.*
  - select_bill.*
  - select_francis.*
  - select_louis.*
  - select_zoey.*
7. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of your created set of folders.

Step 3 - Extract from left4dead2_dlc1 Pack

1. Click on File > Open menu item.
2. Select the "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2_dlc1" folder.
3. Open the "pak01_dir.vpk" file within the selected folder.
4. Go to "models\survivors" (in the left panel).
5. Select only the files listed below:

- survivor_biker_light.*
- survivor_teenangst_light.*

1. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of template set of folders.
2. Go to "materials\models\survivors" (in the left panel).
3. Select all the files listed (in the right panel).
4. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of your created set of folders.

Step 4 - Extract from left4dead2_dlc2 Pack

1. Click on File > Open menu item.
2. Select the "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2_dlc2" folder.
3. Open the "pak01_dir.vpk" file within the selected folder.
4. Go to "models\survivors" (in the left panel).
5. Select all the files except those listed below (current versions are in the dlc3 pack):

- gestures_teenangst.*
- survivor_teenangst.*

1. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of template set of folders.
2. Go to "materials\models\survivors" (in the left panel).
3. Select all the files listed (in the right panel).
4. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of your created set of folders.
5. Go to "materials\vgui" (in the left panel).
6. Select only the files listed below:
  - s_panel_*.*
7. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of your created set of folders.

Step 5 - Extract from left4dead2_dlc3 Pack

1. Click on File > Open menu item.
2. Select the "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2_dlc3" folder.
3. Open the "pak01_dir.vpk" file within the selected folder.
4. Go to "models\survivors" (in the left panel).
5. Select all the files listed (in the right panel).
6. Right-click and extract to the corresponding sub-folder of template set of folders.

Step 6 - Close GCFScape

1. Close GCFscape.

The extracted files template provides this set of empty folders to hold extracted files:

- L4D2 Extracted Files
  - left4dead2
    - materials
      - models
        survivors
      - vgui
    - models
      - survivors
      - weapons
        arms
  - left4dead2_dlc1

        survivors
      - vgui
    - models
      - survivors
      - weapons
        arms
  - left4dead2_dlc2
    - materials
      - models
        survivors
      - vgui
    - models
      - survivors
      - weapons
        arms
  - left4dead2_dlc3
    - materials
