Modding the Textures
NOTE: There are many topics that can be discussed in this section. I will add to this section when I can.
Convert textures from an existing Source engine model into png format that 3D editing tool can use. (NOTE: VTFEdit can export to png format, but it doesn't always create the file properly so that a 3D editing tool can use it.)
Open VTFEdit
File > Open
Select vtf file you want
Click Open button
File > Export
In Save as type field, select BMP files (*.bmp)
In the other areas of the window, choose where to save the bmp file
Click on Save button
Convert from bmp to png format. (Optional, but recommended to have smaller file sizes.)
Open Paint.NET
File > Open
Select bmp file you want
Click Open button
File > Save As...
In Save as type field, select PNG (*.png)
In the other areas of the window, choose where to save the png file
Click on Save button
In the Save Configuration window that shows for png format, in the Bit Depth field, select Auto-detect
Click the OK button
Delete the original bmp file.
