Export the reference mesh and skeleton:
Open Blender
Click File > Export > Source Engine (.smd, .vta) menu item
(SMD Export mode menu will pop up)
Select the mesh (not the scene)
(If first time exporting, select folder to which to export)
Click Export SMD/VTA button
