Excelling- Teachers collaborate weekly using the Georgia Standards to identify learning targets, and plan interdisciplinary units, and day-to-day instruction that uses process-based thinking. Evidence of reflection on previous instructional practices and review of student work is evident. Business and community partners are frequently invited to assist in collaborating and developing project-based learning activities.
Grade Level Meetings
2.26.pdfTeachers have protected collaborative time each week. They also meet biweekly with members of the STEM Leadership team to focus on PBL Unit planning and interdisciplinary lessons.
Scan.pdfWES teachers began the school year referring to the calendars created in the spring semester. Each grade Level met with Katie Martin from the UGA Extension Office to continue planning PBL Units and Interdisciplinary lessons.
STEM Subcommittee
The STEM Sub Committee is comprised of STEM leadership, school administration, and grade level representatives. The committee meets monthly for vertical planning opportunities and address any grade level needs.

In May, new grade level teams took time to dive into their standards and create planning calendars for the 25-26 School year. They began updating and planning PBL Units during this time. Some chose new driving questions for the upcoming year, and others made small changes to current ones.

Brenda Moss at NWGA RESA attended our February STEM walk and provided feedback for grades K-2 on their PBL unit plans and interdisciplinary lessons. This information was relayed to the grade levels and changes and lessons were revamped based on the information.

VERTICAL PLANNING
At WES we have monthly vertical meetings, and every other meeting has a STEM focus. In March, we dove into science standards that did not tie in with our PBL. Teachers revamped some interdisciplinary lessons using the resources from GA Inspire. April 22-23, 2025, teachers looked at driving questions and made changes to ensure they led to authentic student research.
