WES has chosen to expose ALL students to STEM through the whole-school model. All students have a high-interest, rigorous, hands-on curriculum that we provide through a STEM embedded curriculum with a common EDP that is posted and used in all classrooms, including our STEM room.

White Elementary has developed a STEM matrix that provides guidance for new staff members and stakeholders seeking information about the vision, culture, and curriculum approach to STEM at WES. This matrix includes our overall school goals for the long-term program and additionally, the sub-committee sets yearly goals based on the progression of the program. 

Below are schedules of our STEM Walks and Showcases. Earlier examples were more detailed with grade level units with interdisciplinary standards. Our more recent schedules are now simplified for guests to go directly to the grade level PBL through a QR code.

It may sound un-bee-lievable, but as an entire school today, we participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census! Each class K-5 counted all the pollinators they could find. Students learned about basic entomology while at the same time helping generate and upload useful data to sustain pollinator habitats. Master Gardener Mary Willis came and helped the 2nd grade students complete the census.

SERVING UP REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES: Where does our food and clothing come from? What does agriculture look like in Georgia and how can we have a place in it? White Elementary School Warriors learned the answers to those important questions today thanks to Georgia Farm Bureau's mobile agriculture classroom and other community partners!

The 36-foot mobile unit, equipped with technology and digital learning materials, helped students dive into seven different Georgia agricultural commodities!

To further the agriculture experience, several other community partners brought goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, and tractors!

What an exciting day of STEM education as our students explored the vast opportunities in agriculture!
