Snow Coding

Students worked on addition and subtraction within 20 and unplugged coding skills. Each student solved the math equation, then had to find their way to the answer as if they were a Beebot. They drew out the path they would take on the mats. Then they chose 1 to write about and explain the reason they chose that route.

Students reviewed force and motion standards and measurement standards by creating a ramp that would launch their car the furthest.

Chicks Hatching at WES.mp4

Students learned about the chicken life cycle by incubating eggs. They wrote about the process of the chicks hatching using narrative writing.

Students investigated states of matter with hot chocolate. When they finished, they used informational writing skills to explain the process.

Plant Needs

Students study plants and their needs on a nature walk. During the walk, students had to compare and contrast two different plants. The STEM challenge was to design a container for growing the tallest plant. During the unit, Master Gardener Mary Wilkes spoke to students about growing plants.
