This is a 3rd grade journal from the beginning of their current PBL.
Students researched zucchini plants and the best ways to care for them. They discovered companion planting from their unit on the Three Sisters and wanted to try it with zucchini. The students chose marigolds to plant. They sectioned off the garden bed to see if there will be a difference in the plant growth based on the number of marigolds.
Students researched the 3 Sisters crops and planned their own garden based on their research.
Students started parsley seeds in different mediums to see which would have a better result. They also kept measurements of moisture and PH levels for different soil mixtures. They used the CER protocol to determine which soil they should use when planting in the spring.
Students planted seeds and tracked growth over time using a line plot. They made observations about the needs of plants while indoors and then transplanted them to the garden bed outside.
