After a long time,
|It has come to an end.
It’s been long over if we’re being honest.
The opportunity was lost,
Like a bag of marbles, spilled and dispersed.
She seems to have found hers,
I continue searching for all my scattered marbles.
And then I found it.
While looking, I found a new, beautiful, sparkling one,
The most important one.
I must continue searching for everything I’ve lost,
But I have the one.
She gives me hope, fills me with joy, pushes me on,
She makes me new.
And just like that,
A new story has begun.
When we wrote this poem, I was going through a change in my life. Friends who I used to talk to every day were now more distant or gone, and I began feeling a bit lost and alone. Everyone knows the saying, “losing your marbles,” so I kind of took that and ran with it. I used the imagery of someone literally losing their marbles to signify a rough, chaotic period in their life. I purposely separate the poem sort of into two halves, one to explain the hard ties and the second to explain how life began feeling better. I used the imagery of a special, beautiful marble to signify the new friends that came into and helped pick me back up, helped me “collect my lost marbles.” I especially had one friend in mind, someone who’d give me advice and support when I needed it. I’m very thankful for her and glad to still have her in my life. The end, “a new story beginning,” signifies the new chapter in my life that I am entering and living in this year.
