Left wing, right wing,
Both connect to the same bird,
One so immense it engulfs the earth,
With an 1olio tune that never stops,
And a 2farrago of feathers,
Various shapes and sizes joining together,
Forming a canvas of mountainous slop,
Left wing, right wing,
Round and round it goes,
Pecking and chirping at every one person,
Saying, “Look at me, look at me,
I am the diversion,”
One by one we fall for its trap,
It’s owners shoot us down,
Bap, bap, bap
Looking up at the sky,
For it’s all we can see,
I dream of freedom,
For you and me
Looking up at the sky,
For it’s what they permit us to see,
I dream of freedom,
From an unjust society

2 Farrago - a confused mixture
I am the oldest daughter in my family. A strong will and stubborn nature burned into my soul because of the responsibilities I hold which, while being overwhelming at times, ultimately allows me to always put my best effort into everything I do, especially when it comes to my writing. I was inspired to write this poem when first waking up in the morning and hearing the news station from my living room. I very rarely pay attention to current events as I have grown quite tired of the topics that are discussed and the feeling of helplessness they tend to bring me. However, that morning I felt a new kind of restlessness at what I was hearing and decided to put these emotions into writing. It was a hard emotion to convey, but still, I persevered to at least try, and in doing so found my ability to write about my feelings of confusion towards a system that felt unstable to me. In my poem, I explore the emotions I feel when facing current topics such as the different political parties in government and the power they hold over me and their influence over my life.
