Water clear like a window
Window piercing the veil between land and water
Through the window
A largemouth bass drifts with accuracy
Every move a calculation
Chasing the baitfish as their scales reflect the sunlight
Then, something new appeared
Colors the bass had never seen before
The lure with spinning ribbons of light
A wounded, flickering, lie
The bass tilts, circles,
Muscles coiled
The urge to begin a new hunt
Desire more important than caution
STRIKE
A burst of water and will
And his world is yanked upward
Surface shattering
A tsunami erupting
Air replaces water
Now rises the giant
The angler
Lifting the bass toward a realm
A realm previously unexplored
Now the natural hunter learns
He has been hunted too
I fish a lot so I’ve always wanted to write a piece based on a fish chasing its food until it chases something out of
the ordinary. Like a child chasing their sibling around the house.
