If I speak too much I’m told to stop
If I speak too little I’m told I’m not that much
But if I speak moderately I’m told I’m not enough
When the world roars you should roar back
When they shout you should shout back
When the world stops you should doubt
Am I too little
Am I too much
Should I just keep my mouth shut?
When in doubt bite back
When in silence shout back
Never was there a boundary you should not cross
but one they fear you would cross
For it is not that we aren’t enough or too little
It is we aren’t that brave to seek out more than we should ask
Why hide behind embarrassment
When we should embrace it
Next time you’re told to stop
Eat them.
This piece was inspired by the hunger some people have to achieve their goals and aspirations. Originally this piece was going to be solely about my hunger, but I drifted away from my original thoughts and wanted to include the reader. In this poem imagery was used to express the thoughts of a person who is conflicted on what they should be defined as. This poem signifies an expressive person who wants to become more than what they are perceived as. I personally think this poem can be read in many different ways and expressions, but overall the message of this piece is to speak your mind without a doubt.
