You walked right up to me and suddenly my whole world lit up
It wasn’t the sun, or it wasn't the light
Feeling something good
That only me and my heart understood
You feel like spring grass pushing through cold soil
so new, like grass becoming green in spring
But you feel like something I’ve seen
Like a song humming in the radio
One I haven’t heard in years
But still able to know every word
Maybe we were friends when we were smaller
Or maybe we know each other before time began
Or even maybe
We never really stopped knowing each other
What initially inspired me is the people who surround me. I am inspired by each and every one because they all bring such joy into my life, but I couldn’t just write all their names so I decided to write it as if it is one person. I thought about my feelings towards them and how I wanted to express my feelings. I used literary devices like similes and imagery to express them. By writing and structuring my poem I decided to focus on the present in how it truly feels as if I’ve known them my whole life, and that’s where towards the end of the poem you can see I talk about the past as if I’ve known them forever.
