Spookiness is low as the look is cartoonish (I wonder why) and they are more up for playing tricks than spooking.
Danger is even lower as they hold very little power and one of their main forms of attack is licking their foe.
Transform is high as there is no clear connection to any dead Pokemon, meaning we will assume this is a human ghost. Black orb with big eyes and tongue is far from a normal guy.
Name comes from the world ghastly, which means causing great fear or horror, which is a good name, on brand, and I like the slight misspelling.
Much spookier evolution, Sharp and scary.
Danger increases in coordination with spikiness. Adding hands also allows for better grabbing and pushing, something quite dangerous in a ghost.
Transform actually lessens with evolution as Haunter is a much more human looking ghost than Gastly, with his hands and more face like structure.
The name though? Wack. Gastly uses a cool and more unique word, editing the spelling to become something new. Haunter just takes a word that already exists, and is more common when in reference to ghosts, and claims it.
Spook is a step down from his lower evolution Haunter, as he becomes more of a fuzzy ball than a spikey ghost.
Danger goes up. This guy remains a speedy high special attacker in the games, and a useful, but not insanely powerful card.
Transform lessens again, now having a body, legs and arms. Still is ghosty though, and his face is in his chest.
Name is a cool part of Gengar, again being more experimental and less exact word that has to do with ghosts. My favourite theory being the name originates from Doppleganger, as Gengar likes to pretend to be people's shadows.
Alolan Marowak is a mid-range spooker. His skull helmet and sharp eyes certainly provide the most, however his softer looking body, and short stature take away from what could be decently spooky.
Being a split Fire and Ghost type gives Alolan Marowak some strong offence with decent defense, however he is not the most competitively viable, being relatively frail. Another mid range classification for the Bone Keeper Pokemon.
Transform can be applied to his basic form, and causing his skin to go dark, and newfound abilities of fire, Alolan Marowak is on the higher side, especially compared to his other stats.
The name I feel should not suffer from the regional variant at the beginning, and as such we will classify Marowak on it's own. I like it. It is descriptive, and understandable. It sounds more daunting than silly, while still having a little Pokemon silliness.
Misdreavus has always seemed much cuter and cuddly than spooky despite being a ghost. Like little sacks of fluff and cloth. However, Misdreavus apparently love to scare people, and their necklace orbs hold shrieks if you listen to them. Creepy!
Danger is pretty low, Misdreavus being a basic Pokemon means their stats are middling at best, but pure ghost type does give some advantages such as normal and fighting immunity, and few weaknesses.
Despite the color, Misdreavus looks very similar to a blanket ghost, with the flowing body and lack of legs. A 4 for Misdreavus.
The name is interesting to me. Pokemon Database has the name origin coming from the words Mischievous, Dream, and Reave. Mischievous meaning tricky or naughty, Dream is somewhat self explanatory, and Reave, meaning to rob or steal. I think this is a pretty great name! These are cool words that each build together a name that sounds spooky.
This undead has a rather sad feel. Galarian Corsola has a frowny face, they are grey and white rather than the colorful blue and pink of the original form, and their spines are replaces by ghostly outlines (not visible in this card). I would give this a pretty high spook. While it isn't going to make you jump, it will make you uncomfortable in a spooky way.
Galarian Corsola is a very defensive Pokemon, and deals very little damage. Low danger here.
The transform from their original form is mid range, they keep the same basic form, but lose the spines for ghost spines and get pale and sickly looking.
The name, Corsola (shedding the regional form) originally is very reminiscent of it's original design, coral. However, when given a spooky context, it does sound a little haunting.
Spook of Shedinja lies in a weird place. While they do not look especially undead or dangerous, they do look hollow and somewhat angelic. Considering a bug angelic is odd, and does come off as a bit creepy to me.
Danger is very low. Shedinja is notorious for having extremely low HP, and can do very little with his equally low ability library.
Transform is interesting as it has a lower evolution that is NOT a ghost type, and so we can look at that to decide on a transform level. Nincada looks like a pretty normal bug, so transform is pretty high for this angel bug husk.
The name, Shedinja, is a combination of shed (like shedding skin) and ninja. I think this is an interesting idea for an undead name, as shed works, and ninjas are often considered warriors of the night, which again can work. Good name.
I love Sableye. He is my favorite Pokemon of them all. Some love the big dragons like Charizard or Tyranitar, and some love the cuties like Mudkip or Togekiss. However I love Sableye. This purple gem goblin is the best Pokemon to me. He is creepy and cute at the same time, and so his spook will not be a 10, despite my love for him, but a 7. It is still this high as they are based on the Hopskinville Goblins, which were supposed alien invaders.
Sableye was originally a type combination in the games that made him weak to 0 types. now though, Fairy exists, and beats up my boy pretty hard. In the card game, he has cards from this example (the only holographic I own of him) to EX cards. His danger will be a 6 as he is somewhat viable and interesting, but is no overpowered Pokemon.
As a ghost type, the transformation is hard to discern as he doesn't seem to have any ghostly qualities. However in their in-game description, they are described as having evolved to this form due to their diet of gemstones, and that they steal the souls of those that see their glinting eyes in the darkness. Transform will be a 6 then, if we assume they evolved from some underground kind of people?
Their name is lovely. It is a combination of Sable, and Eye. Oddly Sable is a kind of fox like animal native to Japan, and Eye is obviously focusing on their gem eyes. While the combo is somewhat confusing, it is easy and fun to say. 8 for name.
Being evocative of the sheet ghost, Shuppet is not very spooky. They do occasionally show off an enormous tongue, a commonality between many of Pokemon's ghost types. Low spook.
The danger of a Shuppet is also not very high, being a basic Pokemon Shuppet has potential in its evolution, but for the moment, low danger.
Transformation is, as always, hard. There is a fan theory that Rotom and Shuppet have some connection, being similarly shaped, and so I will give them a low transformation, under the idea they are a Rotom with a sheet on top.
Finally the name is cutesy. As the puppet Pokemon, the name clearly is derived from the word puppet, and I would assume also sheet. Sheet puppet, Shuppet. 4/10.
Slit pupils and a zipper mouth make me very uncomfortable. This Pokemon's smile seems forced, and gives the aura of one with viler intentions. This Pokemon was apparently once a normal doll, but was filled with hateful energy after being thrown away. Very spooky.
Danger is only moderate, while Banette's cursing abilities are heralded as incredible, the hard stats say otherwise.
This Pokemon was originally a doll, and was possessed. It is unlikely to me that the doll looked like this before it was thrown away, so I will give Banette a 4 in transform.
Banette's name in Japanese leads towards Pinocchio, but in English I think it may just be banished and puppet. Banette. That is a 6.
Duskull is a very simple ghost with a cartoony skull on its face. What I love about him though is the single glowing eye behind the skull that floats between the holes. It feels very chaotic and mysterious, however, the Pokemon is not very spooky, about a 4.
The danger is low, Duskull being a basic Pokemon means his stats are fairly low and is meant to be more of a tank than an attacker.
Transform is hard to determine. There are no lore entries on Duskull's creation, however, they are the most ghost-shaped of any Pokemon so far, so I will give them a 6 to be similar to a basic ghost.
The name is simple but nice. Dusk and Skull. They hangout at night, and have a skull on their face. 8.
Dusclops is one of the creepier Pokemon from a visual design point for me. Their strange hands and clear mummy aesthetic diverge from the usual Pokemon cuteness. 8/10
The danger increase in the evolution is a marginal one. Dusclops won't be something feared competitively by anyone as he has low health and speed, and only acceptable damage dealing output.
Following suit laid by Duskull we will give Dusclops a 4 in transform. Similar to a mummy, little extra for its wackiness.
Dusclops is an interesting name as it relies more on the cyclops idea rather than the mummy one. I think this is to its detriment as all of the evolution has but one eye. 5/10.
Spook is a 4 as Drifloon looks pretty cute, but, is said to try and carry children away. No specified reason for the want to kidnap but it certainly raises the spooky level.
The danger is only a 2 as this balloon has low stats and is too weak to carry the children away. If the Pokemon can't even carry a small child I doubt they can fight a zombie.
Transform again is confusing. Seems like a possession of sorts, however, the balloon is given distinct facial features like eyes and a mouth-like shape, so maybe a 3 for this category.
The name Drifloon is pretty simple. Drift and Balloon. Neither are overly scary words, but they do make for a nice name. 4 out of 10.
Spook is going to be raised from a 4 to a 6 with this evolution, the overall design is a bit more insidious with a larger frame, darker purples, and red eyes, but more importantly this Pokemon is said to bring people to the afterlife, and cause a man to go missing. Insidious blimp.
Danger will also increase by 2 as they are much bulkier than their basic stage, and have a decent punch behind them.
Another possession with instilled human features so we will keep the transform at a 3.
Drifblim flows a lot worse than Drifloon. It also is effectively the same structure, Drift Blimp this time. 2/10.
Spook is a 6. While the look is a bit spookier, the lore is less so. Apparently Mismagius casts spells that will either help or hinder victims. So not entirely spooky, actually pretty nice.
Danger will be a 5. Mismagius can hold their own decently well.
The transform will be a 6, further transforming from the blanket ghost now with a distinct wizard design.
The name Mismagius continues the Mischievous theme, but now mixes with Mage, a term for a magic user. Mischievous Mage gets a 6/10.
Spiritomb is one of the scariest Pokemon from a visual design. A swirling mass of energy with a crooked ghastly face. Beyond that, it is said to be a conglomeration of 108 spirits who have been locked to its keystone for their "misdeeds". Terrifying! 10/10.
The danger is moderate for a Pokemon. It isn't said to destroy worlds or murder people, but has decent stats and moves. 5/10.
Seeing as this is said to be 108 spirits who committed misdeeds, I feel it is safe to assume they are human spirits. I would say the transform is then a 9. While it is no where near a human design, the face keeps it from a 10.
Spiritomb is fairly obvious. Spirit and Tomb. It makes sense considering there are 108 spirits trapped in there together, so I would consider this a 4/10 name. Nothing interesting, but no lies.
Dusknoir is one of those Pokemon that just looks like shapes. He has a big goofy stomach mouth and eyes, floppy hands, and then a bell-like head with one red eye? Strange. Maybe a 6? They look rather intimidating and funny simultaneously. Hard Poke to judge.
The danger is also a little strange. Dusknoir is very much a defensive undead, with incredibly high defence stats, but also very low health. While he can dish out some serious damage, his low speed makes it difficult to do so consistently. 4/10.
The transform will be an 8. The strange shapes and features make this Pokemon quite irregular.
The name follows the Dusk pattern of its two lower evolutions, and adds noir, the French word for black. It is okay. Going to match it with Dusclops at a 5/10.
