The OG. The first Dracula. Of course, this original inspiration for every other vampire story must include his weakness to sunlight, him being killed with a wooden stake to the heart, and if the other two Dracs have anything to say about it, ATLEAST one dead wife... or does it? It turns out our boy Bram didn’t come up with these ideas exactly in the original story. Instead, Drac is a pretty wack dude with odd ritual needs and pretty basic powers.
OG Drac is just spooky. He isn’t lame, he has a lot of interesting spooky appearances like feeding his own blood to a woman to control her. That is pretty rad. But he doesn’t really go hard on the spooks. What he does have, is a scary plan. To spread vampires all over. And that would be no good for anyone.
The danger is lower than some would expect because Drac has some really debilitating weaknesses that make no sense to me. He can only cross running water at low or high tide. What? What an odd weakness. And the sun of course, but it doesn’t kill him, it just shuts down most of his powers. And he needs Transylvanian soil to sleep and regain his strength. That one is my favorite. It is such an odd idea, that he needs special dirt to sleep. It justs needs to be near him and he can regain his strength. Yeah, he can infect people and turn them into vampires. Yeah, he can transform into bats and mist, and he is a really smart dude, but he can’t enter your house unless you invite him. Wack weak Drac.
The transformation is very low. Dude was already evil and didn’t care about anyone before he became a vampire, (meaning NO DEAD WIFE :/ Maybe that is why Castlevania Dracula has 2…) So all that happens is paleness and longer teeth.
Dracula. The original Dracula. I think one of, if not the MOST known undead ever. A 10/10 for his influence over pop culture, and his inspiration to many a fantastic story. Thank you, Bram Stoker.
