Evil Dead (2013) re-imagines the curse of the Book of the Dead, giving the possessed a less dramatic power-shift, and an increased level of visual scare, capping off the film with a reborn demon in full.
The spookiness of the possessed has a leg up from the Deadites of the original films simply due to time. Because of the enhancements in effects and makeup, the possessed in this film are incredibly horrifying, and make me uncomfortable just looking at still images.
The danger, unlike the spookiness, has gone way down. Their strength and more mystical abilities like flight or controlling their body despite being dismembered has been stripped of them, making them closer to agile zombies.
The transformation coming only from the actual undead possession itself is quite limited, yellow eyes, greened skin, and black gunk coming from their body.
The possessed aren't given more than the name "the possessed" and while limited, the name does well with not much adding to it.
Shaitan is the being that did the possessing in the film, and appears in a crude naked form at the end of the film. Despite having its own body, it pretty much looks just like a normal possessed, but requires no shell to host, and is sexless, seemingly mimicking the form of its prey. Spook will be knocked down one, as the less human appearance.
The danger will hop up one, as it is given super strength, but that seems to be the end of its power increase when compared to the possessed.
Trasnform will be a 2, as it is unclear exactly what Shaitan would have looked like originally, but does somewhat mimic Mia at the end of the film.
Shaitan, Taker of Souls, is a pretty awesome name, and it is unfortunate that they weren't visually designed to match that spectacle.
