World-Class Process Management starts with documenting and measuring performance of processes across the organization to get baselines of existing processes. There are various technologies that can be used to accomplish the documentation and measurement, but even simple methods using whiteboards, pen and paper and a flow charting software are effective. Then a review of the processes is generally done to ensure they align with the strategic goals of the organization. Next is the fun part, together we review the processes looking for wasteful activities, examining different alternatives such as an entirely new process or technology, and a new, less wasteful and improved process is developed. The new process is implemented, training is provided if applicable, a measurement methodology is decided upon, and plans for follow-up are detailed. World-Class Process Management step chart presents many other ideas and best practices and has elements of lean and other step charts embedded. This workshop is one of the highest ROI workshops at the Roadmaps Institute.
Here is an example of a World-Class Process Management Step Chart used at the John M. Campbell Company (now part of Petroskills). This is a 2007 version. RI does not post the latest versions of the step charts. Please contact RI for the latest version of the step chart.
