The 2017 Kopparburg Kup (also known as the Mickey Mouse Challenge) was the 1st edition of the oldest recognised rugby knock-out tournament in the world. It was sponsored by Kopparburg Cider, and known as Kopparburg Kup for sponsorship purposes. 16 clubs were accepted into the tournament, and it began 05/09/17, ending on 07/09/17.
Walladisneys won the trophy for the first and last time, thoroughly thrashing all they came across in their debut tournament. This led to their club nickname: The Man Utd of RC3.

In 2017, several new teams had outgrown the Pro 12, leading to the constant pressure of hosting a new challenge that allowed the expansion to 16 teams. It was the first ever straight knock out tournament in RC3 history, due to the time constraints of scheduling this monster during the main season. It was thus hosted over 3 days, with squad rotation a huge feature of the tournament. It was a much welcome break for teams such as KEVICC and GWRFC, who could experiment with fresh academy players.
