Main Article: 2017 Beasts in the East Tour of the Western Hemisphere
In June 2017, Warren Gatland was appointed as head coach, after being found rotting and decaying in the Chinese suburbs of Peking. In July 2017, Gatland appointed Master Togo as his captain. The touring schedule included 10 games of the Western Hemisphere, ending in a test series against top club side Pets Gone Wild. The tour was marred by shock defeats and inconsistent team selections, however the test series against the Pets ran close to the wire.
