RFC Nautical saw off a spirited RFC Checkatrade side in a scintillating M6 Derby at full capacity Launa Windows Stadium.
The matched opened with Sean Rigg stretchered off clutching his hamstring, a big blow to Phil Brown's already depleted squad. Today missing Dion Dublin, Max Power and, ffs, Tim Sills. Chris Hackett came on as Sean Rigg's replacement.
RFC Checkatrade went down early to a Benedict Bow treble (pen, try, con), but bounced back quickly with tries from BWP and substitute Chris Hackett. Hackett had a point to prove, putting on quite a display. He must have clocked the England scout in row H.
The first half was a close affair but Nautical really demonstrated their class in the 2nd, firing back after the break with two quick tries. 28-14 down, Enoch Showunmi crossed the line in the 80th minute, bless him.
It ultimately came down to discipline in the breakdown, with Nautical earning themselves crucial penalties throughout the match. The Synergy Seamen absolutely dominated set pieces winning 8 out of 9, often with RFC Checkatrade's put in or throw. Allardyce and Van Hout certainly have some explaining to do.
Evening Rot correspondent David Pipe, despite being exiled from the stadium, managed to catch a word with RFC Nautical centre Manuel Rigging on his way to the docks: "Very happy with our performance today, the atmosphere here is always trash so we had to make our own noise. Obviously being forced to play winger isn't ideal for me but I think I managed." "We're a little concerned about the number of tries conceded, so we'll be fixing that in time for next week."
BBC's Guy Mowbray spoke to RFC Checkatrade Head Coach, Phil Brown: "We've been robbed again, it's another narrow loss for us. We're very frustrated and I know the fans are too. Look, we're just gonna knuckle down an- hold on a second, is that David Pipe? What's that f***ing c*** doing here?!?!"
