Building Community provides a range of activities that focus on connecting with the people in our class community. These activities help remove us from our comfort zones and allow us to strengthen our bonds. When we are challenged to try something new we are more likely to grow and learn. All challenges are by choice and students are encouraged to select their level of challenge, but encouraged to be adventurous. The progression of activities should include fun get-to-know-you games, individual challenges (but in a large group setting) and then large group challenges. The success of the group is limited by the time spent at each level. Take time at each stage to accomplish different goals along the way. We encourage you to find time to discuss these goals where appropriate and debrief the activities to help students make deeper connections.
For PDSB Educators: if you are looking to reach out to the Peel Field Centres for further ways to connect your learning to the environment visit the PDSB Field Centre Share Point site.
These activities are designed as safe distanced options. Where appropriate, we encourage activities to be enjoyed outdoors.
These activities are designed for online. Many can be adjusted to suit in-person participation.
