These mystical fruits contain one such power you can attain on your adventure throughout the world of One Piece. Devil Fruit powers vary greatly from fruit to fruit, with each one having a specific power for its eater to draw from. Logia devil fruits allow a person to create, control, and transform their body into an element of nature, depending on which element the fruit gives. Paramecia devil fruits allow the consumer to achieve one of a large variety of abilities that enables them to become "superhuman" or perform a superhuman feat. Zoan devil fruits grant the ability to transform into a certain animal species. Within these 3 classifications are various special classifications as well, though it is by these main 3 that Devil Fruit Classes are made, which will be explained below.
Devil Fruit Research
Upon finding a devil fruit, a DM will tell you to roll for classification, and then for the specific fruit. This information is kept from you initially, and you will not find out immediately what it is upon finding it, unless you consume it. Using the "Research" DT and a Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, you can identify the fruit on your own time.
Devil Fruit Classes
Upon consuming a devil fruit, you are given a Devil Fruit Class. This class is completely separate from your class levels, and works similarly to haki levels. You can gain up to a maximum of 5 Devil Fruit Levels (or DFL), by spending AP in the same manner as leveling up your character and haki levels. There are three Devil Fruit Classes; Logia, Paramecia, and Zoan. You are given the base first level features for each class, such as Logia Reflex for logia devil fruits, or Zoan Form for zoan devil fruits as well as the Devil's Curse, which is the same across every devil fruit. Alongside these features, you are instantly given your devil fruit Subclass as well (i.e. Gum-Gum, or Eleph-Eleph). Detailed below, you will find the base features for each Devil Fruit Class.
Devil Fruit Levels
Your Devil Fruit Level determines your proficiency in using your devil fruit abilities. At level 1, you are considered a new user, with a basic understanding of how to utilize your powers. This goes up to level 5, where you are considered a master at your devil fruit powers to the point of awakening them, and unlocking some latent aspect within your abilities. However, to grow stronger in your fruit class, you must spend AP, similar to growing stronger in your class. The AP cost per DFL is as follows:
1 to 2: 15AP | 5th Level
2 to 3: 35AP | 10th Level
3 to 4: 50AP | 15th Level
4 to 5: 60AP | 20th Level
1st Level: First Contact
2nd Level: Adept User
3rd Level: Gear 4
4th Level: Awakening
5th Level: Mastery
Devil's Curse
Upon the consumption of a devil fruit, you lose the ability to swim, and your swimming speed becomes 0. When you are half submerged in water, your speed becomes 0 and you begin to sink into the water at a rate of 30 feet per round. While half-submerged, you are considered Suppressed. While drowning, you suffer 10 points of damage each round. The damage from drowning cannot be reduced in anyway. With proper equipment and special care, you can evade the detrimental effects of the Devil's Curse. If your Devil Fruit offers you any resistances or immunities to any damage types, you lose them as a result of being half submerged in water. You are not affected by water made or manipulated as a result of techniques, as it would be considered moving water. You are also affected by Sea Prism Stone, detailed below.
Sea Prism Stone
Sea Prism Stone is a rare mineral mined from the New World. It is said by many to be the Sea in solid form. As a Devil Fruit user, coming into physical contact with Sea Prism Stone causes you to become Suppressed, similar to being half-submerged under water.
Zoan Devil Fruit
When you eat a Zoan Devil Fruit, you gain the following benefits immediately. Please wait patiently to fully receive your "Zoan Form" feature granted by your fruit, as it may need to be created before being given to you.
Form Clarification
Upon eating a Zoan fruit for the first time, you gain the first level of your devil fruit. This will include an appropriate ASI bonus based on the classification of the fruit, any passive abilities gained that match with the creature the fruit is modelled after, and your first form transformation. This transformation would be considered the Full Form of the creature, which you can assume as an action for any amount of time, lasting until you dismiss it, knocked unconscious, or die. Though, as part of your fruit's first level ability, you will get abilities that are detailed "[Creature] Form or Hybrid Form Only". It must be stated here that you do not gain access to your hybrid form until you reach the 2nd level feature of your Devil Fruit.
Also, features that specify being restricted to either your Full or Hybrid form are exactly that, you must have transformed and still currently be transformed prior to using them.
Paramecia Devil Fruit
When you eat a Paramecia Devil Fruit, you gain the following benefits immediately. Please wait patiently to fully receive your abilities, as they may need to be fully created and approved among staff before being given to you.
As a Paramecia user, you may modify existing techniques at half the cost (mentioned in “Modifying Techniques”) as long as the modification is modeled after your devil fruit abilities.
Logia Devil Fruit
When you eat a Logia Devil Fruit, you gain the following benefits immediately. Please wait patiently to fully receive your abilities, as they may need to be fully created and approved among staff before being given to you.
Logia Reflex
You have eaten a Logia Type Devil fruit, turning you into the element pertaining to your fruit. You gain immunity to non-Haki infused Bludgeoning, Slashing, and Piercing damage. If you are surprised, or the weapons that deal this damage are made with Sea Prism Stone or are Haki-Infused, you do not benefit from your immunity or resistance to the damage.
SMILE Fruits
There is an off-chance that what you think is a Devil Fruit ends up being what is known as a SMILE fruit, or simply SMILE. A SMILE is an artificial Devil Fruit created by Dr. Smiley. Similar to Zoan Devil Fruits, SMILES give its consumer attributes and properties pertaining to a specific animal. However, the consumer's entire body changes, transforming into a forced, permanent hybrid of the animal and themselves.
There is a chance that a SMILE grants no effect at all aside from the Devil's Curse and stripping you of the ability to cry. As always, be cautious of what you eat, as you may end up with endless laughter and an unbreakable smile rather than any ability at all.
SMILES work separately than Devil Fruits in that they cannot be leveled up. Instead, a feat is given to the consumer of a SMILE.
Devil Fruit Custom Techniques - Devil Charges
As you gain levels in your devil fruit, you will gain new abilities brought to you by the source material. However, devil fruits are a much more personal type of ability. When you first eat your devil fruit, you can make a Custom Technique as detailed in the "Custom Technique Creation" rules of the source book.
You gain a number of points called Devil Charges, which are considered a class feature that you may attach to the "Short Rest" and "Long Rest" keywords during Custom Technique creation. You gain two sets of charges for each effect. The amount of Devil Charges you have per set is detailed below.
Short Rest Devil Charges: Devil Fruit Level + your Proficiency Bonus.
Long Rest Devil Charges: (Devil Fruit Level + your Proficiency Bonus) / 2, rounded up.
With each additional Devil Fruit level, you can make one more additional custom technique. You learn these techniques as part of leveling up, and they do not count against the maximum number of techniques you can learn.
Clarification:
Any feature which reduces the cost of a techniques keyword applies after totaling all investment within the keyword rather than before. For instance, if a technique effect requires 3 points to add, and 2 points for each rank of the effect. You would add 3, then 2 for any additional ranks, and then you would divide the total by 2. If you have 3 additional ranks of the effect, it would look as so: (3 + 2 + 2 + 2) / 2.
Important Note:
To avoid disappointment early, you may find that the 1st level feature of your Devil Fruit does not include all of the abilities that you may have seen from the source material. This is purposeful, as there are 4 more levels for you to gain until mastery. Still, not all abilities you see in the source material may make it into those 5 levels. Remember that a Devil Fruit offers a specific power, and your character may use the abilities granted by the fruit differently than their canon-counterpart. While we in Content strive to make it possible for your character to emulate the abilities you may have witnessed in source, as well as other applications you might imagine, please remember that you have the ability to submit (balanced) revamps of your fruit power, custom feats, and especially custom techniques to truly make the power your own. That being said, Content Staff has final say in balancing and ruling regarding the end products of the customization you may have created. Thank you for your understanding.
