BSc Adult Nursing with Foundation Year
My name is Kabe Favour, and I am studying Adult Nursing in my foundation year.
What motivated you to study this course?
From a young age, I always wanted to become a nurse or a doctor. I grew up in Cameroon, where I took care of my grandmother, who had dementia. At the time, we didn’t know much about dementia, and she was treated poorly in the hospital, which was very upsetting to me. After learning more about dementia, I became determined to help others in similar situations. That experience made me realise that I wanted to be a nurse and provide care for those who need it most.
Did you have any concerns or barriers when thinking about joining your course, and how did the university help you?
Yes, when I was in Cameroon, I wasn’t able to complete my advanced levels, which made me doubt my ability to pursue further studies. The University guided me through the process, and they helped me transition from Health and Social Care to Adult Nursing. I was initially unsure, but I ended up passing an assignment with 68%, which gave me the confidence to continue my studies.
What aspect of the course do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy the interaction in class, as it helps me understand the material better. I make sure to attend every class because I find the discussions during assignments especially helpful. The tutors focus on breaking down the different points, which helps me focus and understand the content more thoroughly.
How are you finding your tutors, and the university in general?
The tutors are incredibly supportive. Frankie, for example, makes sure you understand the material by offering one-on-one support and sending helpful links to break things down. He regularly checks in via email to ensure you're on track, and I find his approach really helpful and encouraging.
