Interview with Danielle Hennessy

What is your name and what are you studying? 

Danielle and I am currently studying Business Management.  

Why did you choose your course? 

I chose to study Business Management as I had already been working for several years before attending University and wanted to choose a course that would give me the opportunity to further my career. I wanted to study a subject that was new to me that I would find interesting and engaging, Business Management seemed like the perfect fit! 

What did Foundation Year mean to you?  

Interestingly, I actually began my Foundation Year as a Primary Education student but that year gave me the opportunity to really see if that was the course for me, it gave me the chance to explore my options and decide what it was that I wanted to get out of my degree before officially starting. I absolutely loved my Foundation Year and all of the amazing people it allowed me to meet!  

Knowing what you know now, what would you have told yourself at the start of your Foundation Year?  

Honestly at first, I wasn’t super thrilled about having to do the Foundation Year but knowing what I know now I’d tell myself that it was definitely worth it! I’d tell myself to enjoy it a little more and to make the most of having this time to learn about everything that Newman offers and to explore all the features of MyNewman.  

What’s been the highlight of your studies so far?  

One of my major highlights has been receiving a grade First on an assignment, it is so rewarding to see all that hard work pay off! 

What do you think is unique to the Newman experience?  

Newman’s most unique feature has to be its community, the small class sizes means that I know my lecturers quite well and they know me, making it so easy to get support when I need it.  

What are your plans for the future?  

As of right now I am currently applying for HR graduate schemes as I thoroughly enjoyed the Human Resource modules on the course and would love to learn more.
