Aisha Nasreen: BA Early Childhood Education and Care
Hi my name’s Aisha! Currently I’m studying towards early years, education and care to become a teacher. Considering taking the foundation year was a last-minute choice, it was also the best choice, as it helped increased my knowledge and ability within my work for the coming years. Newman had my name written in bold and I leapt and took the chance. It’s been a great year and I’ve developed many learning mechanisms and Newman has supported my skills.
This digital project was based around COVID and how the youth of our generation have had to adapt to certain changes and new ways of living. It was quite interesting to see the different perspectives around this era and also how others took this challenge.
If we do not make time to understand our well-being, we will be forced to deal with the consequences.
Susan Longstaff: BA History
As human beings we desire to craft meaning, why are we here? History has provided a way for me to understand my purpose and has given me innumerable ideas of how I could more effectively contribute to the cause of social justice, which is a part of the mission of which Newman University is committed. Foundation year changed my life, in more ways than I can comprehend. I’d recommend it to anyone
I wished to explore how mental health and wellbeing has been affected by the digital world as these are incredibly personal to me, so it felt as though I could speak about it through the eyes of experience. In the face of an emergent digital civilization, it pays to be aware of the impact of screen time on our lives. This piece was mainly informed by neuroscience, another passion of mine but also modern society in terms of inequality.
Jade Kulik and James Place: BSc Psychology / Psychology and Childhood Studies
We are Foundation Year students looking to move onto our Psychology degrees soon. Foundation Year was an opportunity to get a feel for the university and how everything works, it was also exciting to know that we’d be meeting students who would follow us all the way through to year 4! Newman have been brilliant in working with us to ensure that we have the best experience during Covid-19, and I couldn’t fault them.
We chose the particular topic of teenage anxiety and social media addiction because we feel that it is very prominent in today’s society, especially now during the pandemic. It gave us chance to have a better understanding of why and how it affects teenagers and how we can help minimize it.
