Hate Crime and Social Media

Football has been a really important sport throughout many generations, and is only becoming even greater now that we are seeing a lot more players from ethnic minority backgrounds. There is a campaign which Marcus Rashford is the face of, and it encourages putting an end to online hate crime. This campaign not only highlights, but validates the importance of my presentation because it is being advertised alongside the Euro’s 2020. In my work, I chose to highlight a specific footballer – Raheem Sterling because he has spoken up about the racism and hate crime he has experienced since becoming a footballer. The subject I picked to focus on links well to my degree subject (Law) because it focuses on a specific area of crime, but I’ve also tied it in with the essay I produced for my degree subject, by mentioning what the people in power at all levels are doing, in order to encourage putting an end to football hate crime.
