LLB Law with Foundation Year
Hi, my name is Adil, and I am currently studying Law in my first year. Alongside my studies, I work two jobs.
What motivated you to study this course?
I’ve always had a passion for justice. In Arabic, my name means "justice", which has deeply influenced my career aspirations. Law allows me to help people, and the profession gives my work purpose and meaning. I find it intrinsically fulfilling, which is why I decided to pursue a degree in law.
Did you have any concerns or barriers when thinking about joining your course, and how did the university help you?
I didn’t face any major concerns. The transition has been smooth, and I’ve felt well supported throughout the process.
What aspect of the course do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy the case study analysis in my law degree. It’s fascinating to examine legal issues and apply the rule of law to resolve them. I love analysing cases, reading judgments, and discussing precedent. Each case offers unique circumstances and outcomes, which makes studying law so engaging and thought-provoking.
How are you finding your tutors, and the university in general?
I absolutely love my tutors. They go the extra mile, are incredibly professional, and show great empathy towards students. I’m always looking forward to their classes, and each tutor brings a unique teaching style to the table. For example, Pushpa’s approach is different from Rory’s, but both help me in their own ways. The variety in teaching styles has made my learning experience more dynamic and enriching.
What advice would you give anyone considering studying your course at Birmingham Newman?
I think the first semester here has been really beneficial, especially with smaller class sizes compared to larger universities. For example, Pushpa offered one-on-one tutoring, which was invaluable. If you prefer a quieter, more intimate university environment, Birmingham Newman University is perfect. The university fosters a strong community culture, with many students living locally and getting to know each other. The smaller class sizes make it easier to connect with peers and lecturers, which adds to the overall experience.
Initially, I considered transferring to another university, but now I’m confident that I will stick with Birmingham Newman because of the level of engagement and support I receive from the staff. University has made a real impact on me. It’s a place where everyone feels valued, and the diversity of perspectives and ideas in mixed classes makes the learning experience unique.
