Summative Assessment: Competency #2: Critical Thinking & Creativity
In this project, you will use a critical lens to explore a literary work's key themes, imagery, symbolism, and emotional resonance. Using Google Video, you'll create a dynamic multimedia experience that reveals the fullness of the work's meaning and message through the critical lens.
Create a sub-folder inside your course folder.
Place all of your all work for this specific summative inside the sub-folder you created.
Using your composition notebook and posted Google Classroom assignment(s), review all of your prompt responses/reader's responses to the designated a literary work(s) from the curriculum and then review your research:
"Justifying Your Critical Lens" (Get your copy in Google Classroom.)
Pixels & Prose: Multimedia Sources (Get your copy in Google Classroom.)
Write out your complete narration/performance, including analysis of your critical lens (See Google Classroom for this document.)
Integrate references to your lens throughout your narration (not just at the beginning or end)
Decide on pacing, emphasis, emotional tone, and delivery style.
Read expressively—vary your pace, volume, and tone
Pause for emphasis and let images resonate
Make your lens analysis feel natural, not forced
Rehearse multiple times; record several takes if possible.
Use Google Video (in waffle)
Open Google Video and begin importing your images in sequence
Create your title slide and Works Cited slide(s)
Record or upload your narration with proper audio levels
Layer background and theme music beneath your narration
Adjust timing, transitions, and pacing
Preview your complete video for flow, clarity, and lens integration
Make final edits and quality checks
Export/download your video as a playable file
Save to your Google Drive course folder with the correct filename
Complete your self-assessment checklist
Before you export your video and submit it to the designated assignment in Google Classroom, review your work to make sure that:
Audio is clear and well-balanced (narration louder than background music)
Images display correctly and match your narration pacing
Title slide is readable and includes all required information
Critical lens is clearly explained and meaningfully woven throughout
Video plays smoothly without errors
Runtime is 3–5 minutes
Make sure you have submitted your completed summative to the indicated assignment in Google Classroom by the indicated date/time.
Using my original curriculum materials for a Kiosk Presentation, A Digital Storytelling Project, and a Podcast Project, I collaborated with SchoolAI to reimagine and update these three projects into something new and adapted for current tools for learning.
