RELEVANT LEARNING OUTCOME:
(a) Explain the mode of action of enzymes in terms of an active site, enzyme-substrate complex, lowering of activation energy and enzyme specificity using the lock-and-key and induced-fit hypotheses.
🕐 Estimated time for this section: 6 minutes
Enzymes are biological catalysts, predominantly made up of proteins.
Their primary function is to accelerate the rate of chemical reactions without itself being chemically changed at the end of the process.
Did you know that there are many daily products that we consume, which uses enzymes? For example, lactose-free milk and even in biosensors!
