31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Matthew 14:22-26
Jesus Walks on the Water
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
John 18:36
Jesus Has Angels and Servants in Heaven
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
John 19:1-3
Jesus is Flogged
1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe 3 and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.
Matthew 27:45-50
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”
48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
A man cannot predict his life...Our lives do not turn out in the end how we plan them...Our lives take us down one path and sometimes one path leads to another...Often our lives change and we wind at at a new job (or somewhere we did not expect to be) or with someone else -and it was not something we would ever have really predicted when we were young...Jesus was not like that or like us...Jesus was Divine...He even knew the time of His death, and predicted His death to others throughout the gospels...He could have if He wanted had herculean strength at anytime...He could walk on water...He could at any moment called on His band of angels -for He had servants in heaven...But He chose not to...He chose to live and teach and die like a Man...Many times I have realized that Jesus at anytime could easily have saved Himself...I also think of these things He could have easily done to prevent Himself from being beaten, scourged, flogged, and then crucified to death...I am truly amazed by His grace and His Love for us...
Jesus by His very nature and personality willfully humbled Himself...By Love He veiled and hid His glory from mankind...He could at anytime saved Himself, instead He chose to Love and save us...This is truly amazing grace...
