Mark 11:20-25
The Withered Fig Tree
20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!"
22 "Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
My brother has ask me more than once, why didn't Jesus just have the fig tree produce an abundance of figs...I really do not know why He chose this path instead of producing more fruit, but many see the fig tree as a sinful nation of Israel, who have not accepted Jesus as their Messiah and King...
Jesus had cursed the fig tree and now no one would be able to eat fruit from the tree again...Jesus teaches us the power of true faith and completely putting doubt out of our hearts and what it can do...
By having faith in God and believing in Jesus our sins are forgiven...We are promised eternal life...And our lives are given meaning, as we are reborn into the new person God wants us to be...This is done through the power of faith...
